It is sparingly soluble in water, requiring roughly 50 times its volume to dissolve, yet it seamlessly dissolves in phenol, aldehyde, ketone, glacial acetic acid, triethyl phosphate, ethyl acetoacetate, and cyclohexylamine. This versatile liquid effortlessly blends with other chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, ethanol, ether, and N, N-dimethylformamide in any ratio. It has a relative density of 1.3266 (20/4°C), a melting point of -95.1°C, and a boiling point of 40°C. Its autoignition temperature reaches 640°C with a viscosity of 0.43mPa·s at 20°C, and a refractive index of nD (20°C) 1.4244. It also has a critical temperature of 237°C and a critical pressure of 6.0795MPa. Upon pyrolysis, it produces HCl and trace ***; prolonged heating with water yields formaldehyde and HCl, while further chlorination results in the formation of CHCl3 and CCl4.
