Application Area
The main use of isobutyl alcohol is to produce isobutyl acetate, a compound used in the production of paints and similar coatings, and also as a food flavoring.
Isobutyl alcohol is also used in the industry to synthesize isobutyl esters, such as diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), which is used as a plasticizer for rubber, plastics, etc.
Other applications of isobutyl alcohol include as a solvent for paints, inks, etc. and as a varnish remover. Adding a small amount of isobutyl alcohol to paint can reduce the viscosity of the paint, increase brush flow, and hinder the formation of petroleum residues on the surface of the painted parts.
