N-hexane is a hydrocarbon naturally found in petroleum and is one of the main components of petroleum ether and naphtha. Its chemical formula is C6H14, and it belongs to the class of straight-chain saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons. It is a colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature with a slight smell of petroleum. It is volatile, and its vapor is heavier than air. It forms an explosive mixture with air, and its explosion limit is 1.18% to 7.4% (volume fraction).
