It exhibits excellent solubility properties, dissolving in approximately 50 times its weight in water, and is also soluble in phenol, aldehydes, ketones, glacial acetic acid, triethyl phosphate, ethyl acetoacetate, and cyclohexylamine. The compound is seamlessly miscible with other chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, ethanol, ether, and N, N-dimethylformamide in any proportion. With a relative density of 1.3266 (20/4°C), a melting point of -95.1°C, and a boiling point of 40°C, it is a highly adaptable chemical. Its autoignition point stands at 640°C, with a viscosity of 0.43mPa·s at 20°C and a refractive index of nD 1.4244 at the same temperature. This chemical also has a critical temperature of 237°C and a critical pressure of 6.0795MPa. Upon pyrolysis, it yields HCl and trace ***, while extended heating with water generates formaldehyde and HCl. Moreover, further chlorination processes can lead to the formation of CHCl3 and CCl4.
